NJ Transit
NJ Transit is the nation’s third largest provider of bus, rail, and light rail transit, linking commuters throughout New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia. SP+ Municipal Services operates numerous commuter garages and surface lots for the agency, helping connect thousands of daily transit riders.
SP+ Municipal Services created custom solutions to improve parking for NJ Transit riders. For example, when a new 415- space garage was set to open at the Morristown Station, SP+ Municipal Services developed a marketing campaign to bring in new monthly parkers to the garage.
SP+ Municipal Services designed and distributed approximately 7,000 postcards to announce the Morristown garage opening. Direct mail was also sent to people on a waiting list for parking at a nearby station. Through these marketing campaigns, NJ Transit was able to significantly increase its visibility in townships surrounding the Morristown garage.
At Union Station, the payment equipment needed an upgrade to comply with new Payment Card Industry security standards. SP+ Municipal Services supervised the project, and installed compliant equipment that provides change and eliminates the use of tokens. By implementing real-time credit card transactions, SP+ Municipal Services reduced lost parking revenue caused by the acceptance of invalid credit cards.
Transit agencies across the country are seeking ways to improve public transit options, including new and expanded commuter parking facilities. By partnering with SP+ Municipal Services, NJ Transit was able to enhance its customer service and increase parking revenue.
