Penn State 2019 Football Parking & Traffic

As we know, change can be tough. Change can have drawbacks and discomforts but if we don’t change, we can’t grow and improve matters. Don Jordan, senior vice president, SP+, recently participated in a town hall meeting in State College, PA regarding the new parking and traffic patterns for the 2019 Penn State football season. Don accompanied Cory Chapman, Penn State’s associate athletic director for facility and event operations, Bill Moerschbacher, assistant chief for university police and public safety, Joe Foley, senior associate AD for advancement, and Tom McGrath, associate AD for business relations.

The team addressed the parking and traffic pattern changes approaching for the 2019 Penn State football season. The primary objectives were shared with the audience of Penn State preferred, reserved and general season parking holders. The audience was also provided the opportunity to present their feedback for the upcoming changes.

The SP+ team including Don, Brett Munkel, Perry Eggleston, Jeff Hinton and Jessica Bilko, spent time in State College during the 2017 football season to observe the traffic and pedestrian flow. While the capacity of Beaver Stadium remains the same, the parking lots surrounding the stadium have been reduced. The team placed cameras in key areas to observe the patterns, as well as walked and drove the routes to monitor the fan experience. The SP+ team developed a plan to reduce pedestrian and vehicle interface at high pedestrian intersections, and improve traffic flow and mitigate congestion pre-game and post-game.
